Q1 in Review | Weekbook #19
The dawn of spring brings an opportunity to reflect on Q1 and evaluate current progress against goals set at the start of the year.
The dawn of spring brings an opportunity to reflect on Q1 and evaluate current progress against goals set at the start of the year.
Looking back, I prioritized health over all other aspects of my progression in the first part of 2023. I entered the year with a newfound determination to lose weight and gain strength, a determination I maintain to this day. Above all, I'm most pleased with the consistency I have maintained. There have been very few days where I've skipped the gym or a workout, with most of those missed being a weekend jog.
The other habits I've managed to maintain throughout the first part of the year are my diet and writing habits. I've significantly reduced my alcohol intake this year, as well as putting emphasis on a more balanced, less processed diet. This has led to significant weight loss in the year to date. Furthermore, I've published a blog each week since the turn of the year and maintained my journaling habit most days.
It isn't all good news though. My regular reading and learning habits have slipped away and were sporadic at best. Coming into the year I was focused on reading at least ten pages of non-fiction per day and dedicating a few hours per week to focused learning. Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case and it is going to be a focus area going into Q2.
Given the inconsistencies of some habits throughout the first part of the year, I'm going to spend some time refining my approach and reverting back to the first principles taught by James Clear in Atomic Habits; make it obvious, make it attractive, make it easy, make it satisfying.
There are also many other goals that I want to focus on for the remainder of the year, in particular, my personal brand and improving a number of skills, such as leadership and communication. However, as a whole, I'm proud of my progress so far. This year has seen a big, positive shift in my physical and mental health, creating a foundation for me to achieve many of my others goals in the remaining months.

Book Notes
I am currently reading Jordan Peterson’s 12 Rules for Life.
"If you're resentful, look for the reasons. Perhaps discuss the issue with someone you trust. Are you feeling hard done by in an immature manner? If, after some honest consideration, you don't think it's that, perhaps someone is taking advantage of you."As someone guilty of feeling resentful in the past, I found this to be a refreshing take on how to analyze the situation. Looking back, there have certainly been moments where I've been immature and that the resentment is unwarranted, even though I couldn't see that at the time.
