Adapting to Change, The Toxicity of Self-Improvement & Life-Long Learning

Adapting to Change

I recently listened to the Ryan Holiday episode of 'The Diary of a CEO podcast. In it, he shared a snippet of life-changing stoic wisdom - “learn to become a ‘dress for all weathers’ kind of person.”

The idea behind this sentiment is that we cannot control the weather, only how we adapt to it. Therefore, it is important to be prepared for any eventuality to avoid disappointment.

Understand what you can control and prepare to adapt to what you cannot.

The Toxicity of Self-Improvement

The self-improvement industry is becoming increasingly toxic and synonymous with hustle culture and creating wealth, which is contradictory to the true meaning of the phrase.

Self-improvement is exactly what it says - the improvement of the self, not the pursuit of material gain.

Therefore, it is importance to re-focus on the three core pillars:

  • The physical self

  • The mental self

  • The soul

I strive to do one thing for each pillar daily, I encourage you to attempt to do the same.

Embrace Life-Long Learning

Curiosity leads to learning, learning leads to improvement and improvement leads to progress.

In my mind, there is no skill more important than learning. It is foundational to achieving any goal.

Adopting a learning mindset is the greatest gift you can give yourself.
